Sometimes difficult times like this can also present themselves as opportunities.
simargl has been a good pal but he never showed much interest in involving more people in the project.
He is leaving the project but that's not a reason for being sad or to loose interest in alphaos. This can open the doors to more involvement from other users, from current users and even from users that still haven't joined the forum.
I think we should invest some of our time in a bit of publicity.
We should probably create an official youtube channel. We should use it to create small video clips that show the strengths of alphaos:
- it's blazing speed on bootup
- it's huge binary database (ARM)
- it's small footprint both in RAM and in HDD usage
- it's strong security. We can convert a savefile into a bundle and that way the OS will always boot with some of our tweaks but always clear of viruses/malware/keyloggers.
- etc

Conman works for me without any problems.
However I've never tried peasywifi, so it could work as well.
It seems I'm not a big help in this regard...

Anyhow, IMHO the security aspect of alphaOS is debatable.
Many would argue that an OS that always runs as root with no need of a password is not really secure. As all programs can be started...

Also utilizing the rollback machine is a bit finicky in regards to security.
Let's assume the chosen rollback date for a new alphaOS version is coincidentally the worst day in regards to security for arch, and one week after the chosen days a massive security patch comes in. You get the picture...

Is there a way to find out which days are the best days to base alphaOS on?

And I agree, a change like this is also a opportunity.

Yes but this is something I'm interested in fiddling with such as starting x as user alpha
I am not so concerned by people physically gets acces to my comp but from the web I don't want any stowaways

No you cannot know however updated bundles can be released as I have done for heartbleed and shellshock vulnerabilities

I can tell you one thing it wasn't good to build alphaos on ntfs as permissions got f***ed up for example

Code: Select all

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 349 Jan 17 23:54 /etc/shadow

hmmm probably need to buy a new hdd and format it ext

I can also say that allthough connmann complained about somthing like technologie not present
peasywifi started OK in new build

score:

peasywifi: 2
undecided: 2
connmann: 1

Did you have a look at peasywifi?

Well ... yes. That was when puppy was my main distro. Like I said, I have no objection if its adopted here. Besides, it has got a better gui and more tweaking power.
Cheers.

Sorry to barge in with a different subject but this seems to be the wishlist topic.
I would like to see some improvement regarding laptop usability. Would be great to:
- have a battery meter on systray
- have visual confirmation when AC/DC gets connected or disconnected
- have a cpu-governor GUI/widget
- autosleep when closing laptop lid
- have bluetooth software
- have webcam software
Of course, these would be all optional inside an extra bundle because not everyone has a laptop.

If my ac is not plugged in I get a text in systray with something like 76%

and if I plugin my ac and it gets fully loaded the % stuff goes away

not enough?

are you willing to take on this laptop-compatibility-project ?

How would you ship it, not in iso like devel_??.sb

also bought a new hdd, soon can start making new alphaos :D

HDD in place and formatted ext4/btrfs

I thought about zfs but ciuldn't find fast info on how to format it?
Anyone knows?
Can you mix partions on a drive some ext4 some zfs?
Would like clear info on how to setup one zfs partion

Can now proceed to build a new version of alphaOS :D

Anything you would like to input into build process - now is the time
