GParted Essential...

Postby efgee » 30 Dec 2013, 20:36

IMHO the alphaos iso needs GParted (or similar app) to make it more self-sustainable.
For now I can make a frugal-install (copy) of alphaos because I already have partitioned the harddisk.
If I start with a clean slate (totally empty ssd, not partitioned, not formatted...) I have to use a different linux distro.

Or are there other means (to achieve this) on the alphaos iso I don't know about?

thanks

GParted was icluded in some previous versions but because it had some unique dependencies (gtkmm, cairomm,....) that increased iso size for about 5MB, I removed it. It can be installed with pacman, when needed.

You were right.
After synchronizing with pacman I was able to install gparted and am now partitioning a fresh harddrive.

Thanks

You don't need GParted to make partitions. You can use gdisk (or fdisk).
If your prefer a menu-driven tool you might want to try cgdisk (or cfdisk) instead.
These are perfect for basic partitioning. I only use (G)Parted when I need to move/shrink/expand partitions.
Cheers
