Someone created AlphaOS on Github

Postby efgee » 16 Jul 2015, 00:33

Thought that simargl kept AlphaOS on GitHub, but obviuosly not; it's somebody else
Anyhow, AlphaOS on Github seems to be build on top of Antergos, although don't know how much of (our) AlphaOS is in there.

Pretty quiet around here nowadays...

And tons of spam
Hope a moderator will see it soon and remove it.

BTW: simargl has an GitHub account now ;)
Hope he's doing fine...

Hey mate,

I am still around.

SImargl closed alphaos on github but uploaded source on sourceforge.

Antergos/alphaos is not the samme at all, only by name.

Will take care of spam!

It's long overdue for another AlphaOS release.

Waiting to see what happens to AUR now when they are going to github.

Also I want to replace udev with vdev that is not finished.

Is it still OK to use arch packages allthough we aint got systemd running as pid 1?

Looked at vdev, seems to be really nice.
Which init system would you use?
Systemd, runit or OpenRC?
Arch should be agnostic no matter what init or dev software is used.

Do you consider to use another distro as the base?
Personally I like arch very much.
(Although using the rollback machine has not only good things going for it...)

Take care.

Well the whole point of vdev is to have a compliment to udev that doesn't
require Systemd

So if I would run systemd it would not make sense to run vdev.
Udev is fully assimilated into systemd now so if you want Systemd
go with udev.

Anyway I don't like Systemd meself.

I would keep busybox init, which we are using now. it works for me.

What is your preference, Do you have experience with other inits?

efgee wrote:Arch should be agnostic no matter what init or dev software is used.

That's the problem with systemd, it makes it hard to be agnostic
Arch has adopted systemd

Only if I cannot use packages without systemd running on pid 1

me too

You could maintain a Systemd version if you like

I have no problem with it.

I have no preference, and have no experience with other inits.
Both Linux computers run Arch and Manjaro/AlphaOS.
Both have (automatically) Systemd installed, but thinking of switching the Manjaro partition to the OpenRC version, just to try it out. So far I didn't have time to do it...

Understand what you mean.
However if we don't use apps or services that depend on it we should be fine.
