Versions 12.0&12.1 - Gtk 3.10 and Emendo

Version 12.0 is based on Arch packages from 2013/10/12 with kernel 3.11.4, eudev 207, all the latest from Arch repositories including Firefox 24.0 and GTK+ 3.10. This is the first version that has Emendo text editor as standard. Emendo is a lightweight text editor with syntax highlighting support, made for this distribution to be fast with simple design and using GTK+ as toolkit.

Script makesfs, very useful for automatic converting of Arch packages to SFS module, is improved and now has AUR support. Also, included is new plugin for SpaceFM file manager which allows one click mounting/umounting of an iso image.

In this version mplayer2 is replaced with original mplayer package, because mplayer2 is removed from Arch repository and project is not very active at the moment.

Next thing you will notice is that menus are shown without their icons in all of Gtk3 applications, and seems there is no way to enable them.

Is this transition seamless? Can I expect any trouble?

Is mplayer actively developed?

Mplayer and vlc are only two options in Linux as video player, but since vlc needs Qt, it means mplayer is in fact our only choice. Mplayer is good, works fine, so for me there's no reason to complain. It is actively developed.

Hi simargl, I booted v12 (frugal install directly from iso)
I like the minimal aproach, it boots quickly, nice selection of apps for basic iso
I would like to add dri acceleration though to speed up graphics, I have ATI Radeon 9250, which package should I install from arch repo is it ati-dri or mesa-libgl? I see python2 and wayland in dependencies on arch repo site though?
Or do you have package that enables dri for alphaos specifically?
And I supose there's no tool for generating xorg.conf? I can copy it from my puppy install though.

I tried using pacman from cli, installed few graphic apps like gimp and rawtherapee, resolved all dependencies and downloaded.installed OK
Now if I manage to add dri somehow it would be great, I tried copying my xorg.xonf after installing mesa-libgl and ati-dri and then I did CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE but screen never turned on again neither droped to no-x cli so I had to do hard reboot.
Also Xorg automatically booted to 1280x1024, when I tried scaling it down to 1024x768 with display tool in preferences screen got all scrambled.

Fresh Grub4Dos frugal install to intel core 2 duo laptop, iwlwifi, i915 video. Everything ok out of the box. gnome-mplayer plays dvds, simpleradio streams, numlock off :D Touchpad working with scrolling. Lid suspend installs as in 11, as does pmount, conservative governor, flsynclient etc. Printing not installed yet. As in 11, iwldvm module needed for iwlwifi, put in modules line in /etc/rc.conf. mac80211 no longer needed there. Posting from 12 now using my standard opera 12.16 installed on the boot partition. Emendo question. Can text be added to toolbar icons or spacing changed between them in the ini file or gtk theme? All in all smooth sailing so far.

Edit: Printing also sets up exactly as in version 8.0 through 11. Once I get Abiword on it, I'll test it on the Pentium M intil 2200 pro wireless laptops.

Thanks,

dejan555,

in /etc/rc.conf change X_AUTOLOGIN="yes" to X_AUTOLOGIN="no", and Xorg will not start automatically,
then in tty1 type alphaosx to launch openbox session.

You can try with installing ati-dri - mesa-libgl is installed already - then see if it works without any xorg.conf. I use it that way, it's recommended to let udev detect devices for Xorg.

But will udev load dri without any conf file?
For example I installed clementine and went to open visualizations and it threw message back that opengl is not found on system.
I'll try but chances are system is just too new for my gfx model this is why I'm still on dpup485
